La Maison Rustique

Saturday I spent a lovely day with a couple of girlfriends in North San Diego county. First we went to La Maison Rustique,

someplace we've been wanting to go for a good while. Previously located in Temecula in an old barn, they've relocated to an "urban barn" in Escondido. While I'm sure that the barn was charming, and Temecula would be bursting with wildflowers this Spring (we've actually had quite a lot of rain here in SD this year), getting ourselves to Escondido is a lot more do-able, and the urban barn was not disappointing. Filled with beautiful shabby, rustic girliness, staged with lovely vignettes...even a small vintage mobile home decorated in shabby girly style, complete with chandelier! Leaving with lots of inspiration, jewelry and a vintage birdcage, we then we went to Architectural Relics, a cool shop with a French garden aesthetic, and had lunch al fresco at "Delight of France". All in all, a lovely mini-getaway!

May Basket Swap

I recently participated in a wonderful swap at my fave online altered art group, Paper Whimsy. I made this triptych
and received a lovely triptych from Heather Corn in return.

I am also participating in Kari Rangstrom's May Day Basket swap, here is my basket for my partner Gabrielle. Kind of a Spring-y, girly, frenchy, pinky theme! I made the banner and fairy slipper, the organza roses on each side of the handle, and the WISH crown. And the little birdie pencil. I'm also including a page from a Book of Days from the late 1800s,
the page from May 1. I've scanned it for you to download

and perhaps include with any May baskets you may make to deliver on May Day. I digitally added the robin. I remember making May Day baskets when I was little and hanging them on neighbors' doorknobs filled with violets, forsythia twigs, and lilies of the valley. It's the custom in France to give a little bouquet of lilies of the valley (muguet) to the women in your life on May 1. Unfortunately, in Southern California, violets, lilies of the valley and forsythia are scarce to be found. Of course we have plenty of flowering plants and bushes, but I do miss those lovely spring flowers of my childhood. Lilacs...sigh.

Re-entry into the World of Blogging

I am excited to give blogging another try. My last attempt, three blog posts in 2007, was fairly pitiful...let's see if I can do better this time around!! I'm thinking estate sale finds, artwork, swaps, classes, image freebies, and the like. Perhaps the occasional tutorial. And pictures of my 19 year old cat, absolutely!! And if I could sprinkle it all with glitter, I would!
