April! Airline Destroys Shadowbox! Fabric Collage! Snippets! Freebies!

Hello Friends!

April showers!!
Well, not really here, it is San Diego, after all!

This next piece is something I've wanted to blog about for awhile,
but wanted to make sure it got safely in the hands of it's recipients first!
My nephew married a delightful young woman last December,
they had a beautiful Christmas themed wedding,
and I wanted to make something special for them--
a shadowbox using bits of their wedding invitation along with
pictures of them during their engagement,
leading up to the wedding.
And I wanted to hand deliver it to them
at their rehearsal dinner.
I should mention that we live on opposite coasts.
I thought I would be safe in hand carrying it in
my onboard luggage.
Well.
Our connecting flight was on a smaller regional jet,
and hand luggage is stowed in the baggage compartment as you board the plane.
Well.
They unload the baggage compartment,
and send it up in a little elevator to the gate for you to pick up.
Somehow, some way, lucky me,
my bag got caught between the elevator and the shaft,
it wouldn't open, it wouldn't close,
the only way to dislodge it was to send it back down
and let it drop 30 FEET!
They claimed they tried to catch it...

I wish I had a picture of the suitcase...
But I do have this...
This is what the shadowbox looked like when I packed it:

This is what I received when I finally got my baggage:

They (the airline personnel) were very apologetic,
but I had worked long and hard on it,
and I had so wanted to give it to them in person at the RD...  :(

But...
there is a happy ending!
After begging for bits of the invitation from various relatives,
I pulled myself together to to try recreate it,
which was a bit tricky,
now that they are married,
and I needed to work the wedding in.

 Well, I did,
and the happy couple just happened to come to San Diego last week,
and I was able to give them this:

 in person!!
They loved it,
and we had a lovely time together!

Catching up on some other projects...
I was in a snippet roll swap earlier this year.
I had wanted to do one of those for a long time,
and had so much fun making them!
They are quite addictive!
I love the idea that you can take bits and pieces of fabric and lace
and add to it and make something so lovely!

This next is a 4 x 6 fabric collage sampler
which I made for my partner in
Swap for All Season's monthly fabric sampler swap.
I made this very vintage lace butterfly the focal point,
not realizing but delighted to find out my partner loves butterflies!

Vintage Marketplace, Hungry Caterpillar Birthday and Easter Freebies!!

Hello Friends!

Well here I am, trying to get in a blog post before the end of March.

And it has been a busy March!
My adorable little grandson turned one,
and I had lots of fun creating for his
Very Hungry Caterpillar birthday party!
I made this little accordian photo holder with a picture
for each of his first twelve months:

This is just the first six months showing.

No, I didn't make the cake, but isn't it so cute?!

I did make this welcome wreath for the front door:
My daughter and the birthday boy:

Here he is vigorously removing the birthday crown that I had made him,
made of felt:
I knew when I made it that it wouldn't last long, lol!

And a little banner I made,
using half of a honeycomb ball for the caterpillar head:

One year already, and you can see he is a little boy,
not a baby anymore...
But so so much fun!!

My friend Pam is expecting a new grandson this month,
so I made a scrappy little photo book for her,
all she need do is add pictures:

The cover:

And a few favorite layouts:

Made from those cute little We R Memories 4x4 books,
I just love those!!

This is a little bunny favor I made for our Paper Soiree gathering this month:

Made from a painted peat pot, he's designed for the rear view,
see his cute little bunny tail, made from fluffy felt?

Sigh...Vintage Marketplace was fantastic this spring:

Aren't these so funny?
Farm animals made from vegetables!!

I was enchanted by these umbrellas, cups and coffeepots hanging in the trees:

It was a lovely morning,
we were glad we got there early
as it got much hotter later in the day.

Here are some freebies for you,
thanks for visiting and sticking with me through this looong post :)

It's Still February! No It's Not!!

Hello Friends!

Sooo, did March come in like a lion or a lamb where you live?
It came in like a lion here in San Diego.
Rain!
Wind!
Temperatures in the 50s!
Actually, that's kind of fun for us :)
My best wishes for you all dealing with
the crazy cold and snowy winter this year!

I had wanted to get this post out while it was still February,
as I still have a few pretty Valentine pics to share.

The fabulous Vignettes hosted a wonderful event
for Valentine's Day,
Fifty Shades of Pink!

Vintage Valentine boxes:

Look at this altered book!

Pretty pink dresses:

Fabulous bling:

Look at the fabulous bodice on this dress,
created from vintage rhinestone jewelry!

I would love to have this Eiffel Tower
(it lights up!).

Because this shop is literally a few blocks from the ocean,
they incorporate sea treasures in many of their creations:

Yep.  Jaw-droppingly gorgeous!

For our Valentine's Day, we took naps and stayed up late to watch
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Not exactly a rom com date movie.
But so good!

The next night we went to the Hard Rock hotel
to babysit our adorable grandson
while his Mom and Dad went out for date night.
They made a cute Valentine for me,
which I can't find right now,
and brought us gold-dusted macarons from a fancy OC bakery:

Next time I'll have some new creations to share with you!

And freebies...
I wish you cloudless skies and happy hours:
