August!! Kitty!! Dolls!! Pastries!!

Hello Friends!

OMG!!  It's August!!

This does not mean I post only in months that start in A, LOL!
But I have been a real slacker-blogger lately!
It's been a little of this, a little of that...
Out of town guests, a little vacation,
computer eye issues, PINTEREST,
and a little bit of Summertime laziness thrown in for good measure!  ;)

But the real culprit is my
NEW KITTY
who has been keeping me very busy playing with her!!

She always wants to be doing what I'm doing!
Here she is helping me craft...

Getting a little shut-eye...

She's one year old and was apparently left behind
when her owners moved.  :O
But she was only at the shelter for two weeks,
and I scooped her up the first day she was available!
She is such a super sweetie and a real joy!!

I was in a swap last month where we swapped
"clothespin/peg dolls mounted on a box"!
I had so much fun making mine,
I used a vintage hankie and rhinestone button,
and painted her hair pink!!

Here are some more dolls from the swap,
there's a Marie Antoinette, a couple of French girls,
a garden girl and a couple of other cuties!!

We also took a little mini-vacation to Las Vegas.
I really do love Las Vegas,
I love to go to the celebrity chef restaurants,
see a great show,
(the Cirque de Soleil Michael Jackson is fantastic!)
hang out by the pool, shop...
And we always stop in at the Bellagio,
there is a fabulous chocolate shop there, Jean Phillipe.
Look at these cakes (Yes, the woman in chocolate is also a cake!):

And look at these beautiful pastries:

There is a conservatory in Bellagio that they redecorate seasonally,
and they're always amazing.
For summer, they have a summer/Americana theme:

These birds and snails are made entirely of seeds and dried flowers,
Rose Parade style:

I love the kites hanging from the ceiling.
There's always a water feature.
I love this little pond with the bridge and waterfall:

I do have more swaps and projects to share,
but I'll save that for next time ;)

Under the Sea and Mermaids!!

Hello Friends!

I think that for my last post of August,
an "Under the Sea" theme is in order.
And, I have just the thing to share with you!

My adorable goddaughter recently had a baby girl, Zoe.
No pink or prissy nursery for Zoe,
Tricia wanted ocean blues and an "Under the Sea" theme.
Love it!

Similar to my "oui" banners,
I made a "Zoe" one:

And, digging around in Michaels' end-of-summer clearance bins,
I nabbed this wooden "Z" for 25 cents!  It's about 6" high.

It was painted black to begin with,
but I covered the whole thing with book papers,
then decoupaged ocean-y paper on top and embellished with a tiny starfish.

And my favorite is this blossoming box:

I have made several of these boxes and blogged about them here.

It's like a scrapbook in a box; when you lift the top,
the box falls open to reveal 20 "pages" where you can put photos, etc.

There is room in the center of the box for mementos.

I can't wait to see this box filled with pictures of Zoe!!

Friday freebie time...let's stay in the under the sea mood:

Thanks so much for visiting, and have a great weekend!

Happy Pink Saturday and Freebies!!

Whew! Well, I have a lot of catching up to do here!!

If you've visited me before, you know that I LOVE Swaps!!
My most recent was a Grandma's Attic Swap
hosted by JoAnne at Vintage Dragonfly.
For this swap we were to embellish a matchbox
and fill it with vintage treasures such as one might find in Grandma's attic.

JoAnne was my partner in this swap, this is the matchbox I made for her:

I diecut the flowers from some soft, creamy felt from an estate sale
and used Tim Holtz's Tattered Florals die.
The middle of the flower is also vintage fabric.

And I filled it with these goodies:

Laurie sent to me this adorable matchbox which she cleverly constructed
to make it look like an actual trunk from Grandma's Attic!
How cute is that!

And inside were:

That was just a small sample of the goodies she sent,
she spoiled me with bunches of vintage lovelies!
Here's another view of her darling box:

Thanks so much, Laurie, I loved everything!!

OK, now see...while I was making this blog post and waiting on the computer,
I surfed around and found ANOTHER SWAP!!
See how I am?!! ;)
If you're interested, all the details are here:

I'm also behind on sharing pics from my monthly *aRt*PaRty!! club,
and I promise to post those in the next few days.
But right now I have some Friday Freebies to catch up on,
just some late summer images to play with:

I hope you have a lovely weekend,
and my thoughts go out to those of you in Irene's path.
My daughter and son-in-law live in New York City
and so far have not been ordered to evacuate.
We'll see what happens tomorrow. :/
